What drives the price of a reformer
- Frame: wood or aluminium; finish, weight and price differ, and both are made for studio use.
- Brand and distribution: a well-known brand sold through UK distributors carries their costs and stock.
- Folding mechanism: a folding machine saves floor space; check that the hinge and locks are solid.
- What is included: sitting box, jumpboard, springs, straps and ropes are sometimes extras.
- Delivery and installation: kerbside delivery, delivery into the room and assembly are priced very differently.
- VAT and import duty: always compare prices on the same basis, with or without VAT, with or without duty.

The costs people forget
- Getting the machines inside: our machines arrive crated at about 110 kg each, to the kerb. Plan the people, or a local service, to bring them in.
- Spare parts and wear items: ropes, straps and springs wear with daily use; check what the warranty covers. Ours: 10 years on the frame, 3 on the springs, 1 on other parts.
- Lead time: a built-to-order machine takes about three months. If you open sooner, a faster supplier may be worth a higher price.
- Space: every reformer needs about 5 to 7 m² of floor, spacing included. See how many reformers fit in your room.
How long a reformer takes to pay back
A worked example with our prices: 6 machines at £957.50 each come to £5,745 ex VAT. At £25 a class, 15 classes a week and 60 % of places filled, they bring in £1,350 of class fees a week: about 5 weeks of fees, before rent, staff and other costs.
